National Novel Writing Month

Welcome to the NaNoWriMo page on erosdiscordia!

NaNoWriMo is a free contest that takes place every November, in which participants have 30 days (from November 1st to 30th) to write 50,000 words of fiction. There’s no prize for “winning”. In fact, it’s based on honor-system wordcount validation. But none of the 170,000 annual participants seem to mind, as the process—the parties, the forums, the write-ins, and the glorious sight of your finished novel, printed out and sitting on the desk in front of you—is what keeps people like me coming back year after year.

I’ve taken part in the madness that is NaNo for four years. It’s hard to measure how much it’s helped my writing—I’ve become more daring, more straightforward, and more organized every year.

Towards October every year, I begin to focus on NaNoWriMo on this blog, ending with the (hopefully!) traditional gloat post on December first. Here’s a breakdown of my blogging experience with NaNo (complete with yearly writing space photo):
