NaNoWriMo 2010: Forum Signature Banner
Feeling kinda bold this year.
It’s my first go at Science Fiction, as opposed to the Fantasy genre. It’s my first NaNo novel with a male main character. And, bless its heart, it’s rather less angsty than the previous trilogy.
Recall my banner last year, the first year that I made one. It perfectly captured the sense of elegant surrealism that permeated the whole trilogy, but reached its peak in the final book. But it also reflects the past-focus and exploration of tradition—however subverted—that’s natural to find in an alternate-history fantasy.
NaNo 2010 is all about the future.
It’s a science fantasy glitterpunk, set about 200 years into an alternate future, and on an earth-colonized planet. The main character is a young engineering genius, who has to walk a fine line between promoting his newly-invented spacecraft engine, and resisting the influences, political and corporate, who might want to use it for evil. Along the way, he and his three best friends discover a secret about their planet that could lead to their enslavement…or their victory.
It will be the first book in a two-part series. I’ll post weekly excerpts, and field reports as the NaNoWriMo madness clamps down. It should be particuarly amusing to watch me spin off my axis this year, as I’m Overachieving: going for 120,000 words.
If you see a shooting star, wish me luck!
